How do I connect to Diffusion on port 80?

I need to connect to my Diffusion server (v5.1 on Linux) on port 80, but so far it isn't working. Do I need to run Diffusion server as root?

  We recommend you do not run Diffusion as root.

  Any ports with numbers lower than 1024 are 'privileged' on Linux/UNIX. There are a couple of ways around this restriction. Here are some articles that might be useful:
